Parking Solution

Parking is a big issue at Santa Fe College. The best option the school has with the size it is, is to build a parking garage. This solution can reduce traffic issues and make the school's parking problems less of an issue. This issue can cause problems for not only students but other drivers who are not going to the Santa Fe Campus or involved with Santa Fe.  But there are several Solutions to this problem that can help reduce this traffic.  It is very obvious that there are way more students with cars than there are parking spots for them.  This can be seen by students parking on the grass or other spaces that are not actual parking spaces.  Building a parking garage will increase parking spaces available for everyone and it would be easy to multiply the number of spaces by simply building up rather than out.  The problem with  this solution is that chances are that people will be charged for the garage in order to pay for it. Also during it construction there would be even less parking than usual.  Or because of the tight spaces acciedents may be more common.  BUt there is alot of good things that can go with having a parking garage.

Exercise 15.7

The traditional lecture method of education has a number of problems. For example the lecture method does not usually keep the students involved and students may miss, or misinterpret certain notes. In addition, being present is crucial for the professors, so if something happens for professors and he/she cannot make it to class students would miss one complete section which makes professor to do a makeup section for students, and not to mention that makeup sections are always hard to be arranged.Making a lecture available as podcasts, however, will give students extra study notes just in case they left out something important that would be on the exam. There are three reason this teaching method should be adopted. One reason is that freshman students or students who need to listen to lectures more than once would be able to do that.Another reason is that some students just do not take good notes. Finally, it makes the whole experience easier and more convenient for students overall. For these reasons I believe podcasts should be utilized throughout all colleges and even for High schools.

To coy his mistress

The poem is pretty much about living each day like its your last. He uses imagery of death to show that we only have so much time on this earth. He is effective in his argument through use of grim depictions of life. Though his poem can be a little hard to understand at first due to it being from the 1600's, it is something that can be related to even today. The appeal he uses is Pathos. This use of emotion makes people rethink their lives. The fact life is so short and grim makes this poem relevant through the years.

Thesis Statement: Teachers should carry handguns to protect themselves and their students from violence.
I would uses the content of this article help strengthen this argument. The article focuses on the Columbine shooting. The fact this event happens an schools have almost no way to defend against something like once it starts. Most high schools only have a handle full of school security guards who are armed with pistols. Even with these defenses, it is unlikely they can fully defend a school again automatic weapons. The only other solution it to wait for S.W.A.T. and more police backup. If teachers had guns this could possible redice the chances of something like Columbine from happening again.

Parking situation

There are not many ways you can fix the lack of parking on the northwest campus unless they buy more land  and added more parking. One other way that I can think of that might work is making parking assignments for everyone if they could. I haven't had trouble parking but I also always park in overflow. I think that if you want the best parking spots you get to the school early and if you don't care you can park in overflow.

Parking Soultuion for Santa Fe

Parking is a big issue at Santa Fe College. The best option the school has with the size it is, is to build a parking garage. This solution can reduce traffic issues and make the school's parking problems less of an issue.
This issue is relevant to many students, and even causes a lot of congestion for drivers who aren't affiliated with Santa Fe. But with all there are several solutions that can be taken to reduce this issue.
It can seen on campus there obviously are not enough parking spots. Parking swells beyond the parking limits of the campus. Cars can be seen in non designated parking spots.
This solution will increase parking for everyone. In the area the size of a section of a lot, there can be built a parking lot of multiple stories. The same amount of area that could hold a few hundred cares can be doubled or tripled.
The problem with  this solution is that chances are that people will be charged for the garage in oder to pay for it. Also during it construction there would be even less parking than usual.
There's a lot of good that can come out of parking garage, though it to will cause some problems that come along with it.

Hunsford proposal from Pride and Prejudice

The reason that the proposal failed was because he made it sound as if he really didn't want her as a wife and wouldn't be happy with the marriage  That no one would be happy if they were to marry and that he thinks that it would be frowned apound by everyone. Another reason he failed with the proposal was how he went out of his way to keep his friend from marrying her sister and is happy that he succeed.  The only way he could of possibly made his point more  persuasively was by not saying anything about how everyone would disprove and that he proposed against his better judgement. He also can explain everything that happened better to make her understand and know the truth about things that she used against him.

Exercise 15.7

The traditional lecture method of education has a number of problems. For example the lecture method does not usually keep the students involved and students may miss, or misinterpret certain notes. In addition  this leads to many students only being involved in the class for work related purposes. A "I'm only  taking this class for the credit, but because its interesting or its a career I'm interested in" is the kid of mind set many students have in these kinds of classes. Making lectures available as podcasts, however, this method takes away the tediousness of lectured classes. There are three reason this teaching method should be adopted. One reason is that kids can miss the class without having miss the classes content, though this can also be a bad thing. Another reason is that the lecture can be rewound so that the student can focus on parts may have missed writing down or didn't understand. Finally, it makes the whole experience easier and more convenient for students overall. For these reasons I believe podcasts should be utilized throughout all colleges and even for High schools.

structuring a proposal argument

For my first semester at Santa Fe I noticed that every time I have to go to class that I have to leave my house an hour early just to find parking. I noticed that finding parking is an on going problem that has not been resolved yet, but can be resolved. The problem is that it is an increase of students at Santa Fe Community College so in order to deal with the parking they should add more parking lots or build a parking garage. The benefits of adding a parking garage is that it would be close to classes and you wont have to walk ten minutes just to get to class. It would also be a greater variety of different spaces near your class. Overall I feel that greater parking at Santa Fe would mean greater education, because students can get to class on time and not be late because of parking.

exercise 15.7

The traditional lecture method of education has a number of problems. For example, some professors do not give the slower writing students time to finish all of their notes before they move along. Also some students are late for class due to non parking or for personal reasons and miss a lot of those key points needed to past a test.Making a lecture available as podcasts, however, will give students extra study notes just in case they left out something important that would be on the exam. There our three reasons that this teaching method should be adopted. One reason is that if a student missed class or have an emergency they can go to the podcast to get those notes or  listen to exactly what was taught that day. Another reason is that some students just do not take good notes. so when its time for a student to study for the exam they can examine the podcast for notes they might have missed. Finally when it come time for mid terms and final exams you can always listen in on the podcast to review and get information. For those reasons I believe that lectures should be available as podcast because it could help students get better grades.

Exercise 15.1 Obesity

Thesis: Because many Americans are obese, the government should require warning labels on all sugared cereals.

Works Cited: "Doctor's Orders." Time 166.4 (2005): 73. Academic Search Complete. Web. 30 Nov. 2012.

Much like cereal, especially children's cereal, sodas are loaded with sugar to make them more appealing to the taste. The extremity of these sodas are compared to cigarettes in the way that the need warning labels because they are very harmful to the health. Sodas and sugared cereals both contain many sugars and sugar consumption has been scientifically proven to have a strong correlation with cancer, just like cigarettes and people need to be aware.

Proposal Argument

In today’s America, society has many issues involving obesity, which is essentially leading to a general downfall in every aspect. For example, when people become obese, they generally start to become lazier whether they are at work or at home.  Moreover, this leads to a negative effect for America because if they are getting lazier and slower at work, we will be less efficient as a country. Speaking out against obesity and trying to improve it, however, may cause issues because people may feel offended or they just won’t be willing to fix it because they are happy with the way they are. There are reasons that these changes should take place in society. One reason is that America is known as the “fattest” country because America has a higher percentage of obese people in the population in the entire world. Secondly, America is trying to become more economically and industrially independent, requiring more workers that are quick and agile and not slow and obese. Finally, following obesity, are extreme health risks that are quick killers for people who do not care to watch their weight. Some people blame genetics for obesity, but it has to start somewhere. For these reasons, I believe that obesity is a huge issue in society and should be helped and noticed as a big deal.

Structuring a proposal Argument

Being one of the top ten college in the country and also opening the way for getting into University of Florida attract lots of students across the states of Florida to the Santa Fe College every year. However, there is one problem that always irritates the students of this college. Parking spot! There is no enough parking spots for students car all the time, so students either going to be late for their classes because they have to go around and around of the campus to find a parking spot, or they have to come at least 30 minutes early to find somewhere suitable and close to their classrooms. Expanding the bus system from Santa Fe College to different location of city of Gainesville would help this problem to go away, and has lots of benefits for students. So far making the bus free for students helps a lot. Lot of students who have been driving their cars to college now are able to ride for free and do not be worried for finding a parking spot before their classes. By riding the buses, students who have late classes do not need to be worried about walking to their far parked car alone. Finally, Students can save money on their gas by riding buses for going to school. Some students complain about waiting for bus for a long time, however, this problem would be solved by expanding the number of buses and bus lines. For the conclusion, riding buses help students to save money, be on time for their classes and not being worried about finding a parking spot, and being safe and secure by riding public transportation.

Structuring a Proposal Argument

Currently, there is a parking shortage on the northwest campus of Santa Fe  College campus, a problem that can be solved with a few blueprints and a local construction company. Santa Fe enrolls nearly 24,000 degree seeking students yearly; imagine all 24,000 of those students trying to cram into one tiny parking lot. In society today, everyone is trying to find the fastest way possible to get to places, including classes. Most students drive to school, meaning they need a place to park their car. Obviously, there are not enough parking spots for all the students who attend the college. There is, however, a solution to this troubling situation; construct another parking lot on the land that Santa Fe is not using for anything at the moment. Some might say that implementing the solution suggested is a bad idea because Santa Fe does not possess the funding for such a project at the current time. One might also suggest that the land could be put to better use. While both negative ideas are understandable, the parking lot is simply a necessity in order to accommodate those who attend the school. The benefits of the proposed plan are: 1. Students will spend less time searching for a parking spot and more time in class. 2. The parking lot will add convenience to students lives and with all the stress put on them in this day in age, convenience is most definitely a necessity. In modern day society, convenience is something that everyone strives for. Santa Fe should help their students feel more comfortable by providing another convenient parking lot for the otherwise stressed out students.

Structuring a proposal argument.

Parking is always an issue that no one would like to deal with, but with being students at Santa Fe College, this problem seems to be one of our greatest issues while on campus. With an increasing rate of students that drive to campus and are enrolled comes the issue of the limited parking spaces that are available. This is a problem because many students are being held up from class or becoming aggravated that they may have to put into perspective the idea of not driving to class at all. Because of this issue, Santa Fe College should consider building a new parking lot area to help accompany the growing amount of students that are choosing to drive to campus. With this plan coming into action, many students will be able to arrive to class on time without coming thirty minutes or more before class, and traffic will be heavily reduced. Though this proposal may cost the school extra money, it will be beneficial to both students and the campus in the end. Taken all into effect, parking should be the least of an extremely busy students worries. Making extra parking available will help more that it could ever hurt.

Exercise 15.7

The traditional lecture method of education has a number of problems. For example, students have to be present in the class in order to get the full lectures, the lectures could not repeat for students who need to listen to the lecture more than one time in the class. In addition, being present is crucial for the professors, so if something happens for professors and he/she cannot make it to class students would miss one complete section which makes professor to do a makeup section for students, and not to mention that makeup sections are always hard to be arranged. Making lectures available as podcasts, however, is a beneficial and productive teaching method for both students and professors. There are three reasons that this teaching method should be adapted. One reason is that freshman students or students who need to listen to lectures more than once would be able to do that. Another reason is being present at class would not be crucial so students with full time jobs now would be able to listen to the lecture combined with the power point slides of courses and create the atmosphere of their classroom for themselves. Finally, listening to an audio version of a lecture as well as seeing the respected power point help students to stay alert and do not lose their attention like when it happens when only the power point slides are being run. For these reasons, I believe podcasts should be adapted in Universities and colleges. They are easy accessible, they give the chance of repetition to students, and students and professors could catch up with class by just listening to them when they cannot be present at the actual classrooms.

Exercise 15.7

The traditional lecture method of education has a number of problems. For example, times have changed. Many students are looking for ways to input technology into their daily learning routine. In addition, Students process information differently. For some it is better to hear the information given in the lecture again. Make lectures available as podcast  however, should not substitute as a reason  for a student to purposely and willing skip class. There are three reasons why this teaching method should be adopted. One reason is that it is convenient. Another reason is that it can reinforce the materials covered in the classroom. Finally, it brings new-age technology into the classroom. For these reasons, I believe that providing lectures as podcast could be beneficial to both students and professors.

Exercise 15.7

The subject of underage drinking is a very complicated and controversial topic. A number of problems arise during the discussion of underage drinking. For example, some believe since at the age of 18 one can join the military that at the same age, one should be allowed to consume alcohol. In addition, the younger generation sees drinking as a social activity that should be allowed at social gatherings. However, underage drinking is an issue that should be viewed in a different light and be taken very seriously. The risk of alcohol abuse increases as the beginning age for drinking decrease. Another reason is younger drinkers are less experienced in all aspects of life and therefore, tend to make unwise decisions while under the influence of alcohol. Also, underage drinkers tend to binge drink, meaning that they drink more than four cups of alcohol in one evening. They also seem to exhibit higher risks for alcohol poisoning because they drink so much in one sitting. Finally, underage drinking leads to unreasonable and destructive activity. For these reasons, I believe that underage drinking should taken more seriously and the consequences should be strongly enforced.

"Structuring a Proposal Argument"

There are very many students that attend Sante Fe college, but there isn't enough parking spots to support them all. If we open another overflow of parking spots, then students won't waste their time looking for a spot all morning. This makes students late to class and is just very irritating to deal with. Their is another area next to Sante Fe in which we could set up another parking lot, in doing so there would be much more spaces for students and this problem would diminish. Many students would agree that this is a major problem and would support the problem being fixed. The lot next to the school could be made into another area in which students could park, this way students wouldn't have to deal with this constant problem of finding a parking spot. Student drivers would be more careful driving at school and not so angry to waste time looking for a spot. It was also let students arrive on time for class and reduce any problems in the parking lot. However this may cause a money issue, it could be said we don't have the money to build a parking lot at this time. Building a new lot would save time for students and decrease the amount of angry drivers. This way students arrive on time for class and are prepared to learn for the day.

Excercise 15.7

The traditional lecture method of education has a number of problems. For example, not everyone shows up for class to see the lecture. In addition, You could miss certain information that will not be repeated and won't have another chance to note it. Making lectures available as podcast, however, would make it more possible for students to see this lecture multiple times, and be able to study it more. There are three reasons that this teaching method should be adopted. One reason is that it will help students with their grades being able to view the lecture multiple times and get to study the information. Another reason, is that you wont miss anything. Because it will be easier to access since its not a one time lecture in person. Finally, You can watch the lecture on your own time so you are not late to class or if your sick or tired and not paying attention you have a chance to watch it when you are ready. For theses reasons,i believe that lectures should be made available on podcasts.

Comparing two links

The links I picked to compare are about Wang Shengjun, China’s Supreme Court Leader. I noticed before when I was doing a project on China the lack of information about him on Wikipedia. With the lack of information there is no telling how old some of it might be and how truthful it all actually is. I decided before not to use any of the information found here for my project.  You never know what writes it, and therefore cannot know if the information is accurate or up to date. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wang_Shengjun
This next link is about him also, but it is from the China Daily site. I am more adapt to trust this one more for many reasons. First it is a Chinese website, looks like a form of Chinese news. This tells me that they most likely know what they are talking about and would only post true facts. It also says that it was updated which tells me that someone was keeping track and when new information was available they added it.

Good and Bad sites

http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_cannabis

I used Wikipedia as the bad source because while i was evaluating the source i found very little information on Medical Marijuana. The source came up with barely five sentences. On top of that they had no sources that were reliable or any reliable doctors, scientists or research to cite their findings. Wikipedia already is a very unreliable source considering anyone can edit the pages, so i was not expecting it to provide any good information.
The other site i chose to evaluate provide very good and reliable information. They are a government approved site and had great citations and places to check their sources. They update daily and leave that very easy to find at the bottom of the page. They have many other places to find lots of information on the subject and have government information on their page. I would definitely recommend using this site for any research on Medical marijuana.

Do Employers Using Facebook for Background Checks Face Legal Risk

1. I would check her Journal post for her citations or her sources. Then once i found them i would check them out online to see if they were reliable and find where she got her statistics. I would also check to see if she had any grammatical or spelling errors in her piece to make sure she had it reviewed before posting.
2. I would check her references in the blog to make sure she accurately recorded her findings. Then check her field and see if she comes up online.
3. I definitely believe it is because she does not include much prior information on the subject. Many people comment whether they agree or disagree so they are already aware of employers checking facebook's of their employees.
4. I think she provides good information that can be debated, but she does not properly cite her information or give quality websites where i can check her statistics. That being said i do not believe it is a suitable research source.
5. It tells that many people have looked into this research and support both sides. People commenting provide evidence where employers can view these sites and some provide information of them not being able to view these pages. It shows a good amount of people on both sides for and against this topic.

&
 http://denzel.washington.mediafetcher.com/news/top_stories/actor_skiing.php

I compare to website about the movie star Denzel Washington. The first link is from Santa Fe’s library website. Since this is an academic website, it contains accurate and reliable information. In fact, his biography has been updated few days ago. The author, the work cited and all references are accurate in this link. There is no advertising, sponsor, or political organization that support this webpage so this count as an objective webpage. The information in this page is totally comprehensive and complete. It is even concludes Denzel Washington’s address!
On the other hand, the name of the other webpage is gossip so it shows not all information in this webpage have to be true .The ads are all around the page and distract reader from the main subject. There is no work cited, related link to the subject in this link. the main subject on the second link is a factual error which incurrence the webpage completely

facebook questions

1. The steps that I would take to determine whether Elefant's information is accurate is to check to see if there were any false statements made. Since she references many things, I would check to see if her references are credible or not. And also check to see if she cited any of her sources that she used in her article.

2. To go about determining whether or not Elefant is respected in her field I would most likely search her name on the internet and see what all she does and her accomplishments if there are in. Secondly, I would go to her "about me" tab on her blog to see if there are things written that point towards her being well respected.

3. Her blog post is written for an audience that is knowledgeable about her subject. I can tell this because of the comments that were left on the blog post.

4. No, because the article is far from up to date. She doesn't use references well and I fell as though this was just an article to get her thoughts and the thoughts of others put out there.

5. The comments say that this is just an article to get thoughts out there. From the comments, this is not an article to do research off of and that her audience varies.

Do Employers Using Facebook for Background Checks Face Legal Risks?

1.) To verify her information, I would look up all of the sources she has listed for accuracy. She lists information from Financial Week and New York Daily News as well as a study from the Vault.

2.) From this article alone it's hard to judge whether or not she is respected in her field, I did a little sleuthing around the internet and found some information about her. It seems that she was among the first in the legal professional to become involved online.

3.) I think her blog post is written for people with at least some knowledge of the subject. While she does give some background information, she doesn't hold the reader's hand as she discusses the topic.

4.) I don't believe that this is a reliable source for research because she doesn't explicitly give links for her sources for one. I'd probably look up those sources she mentions and see if they were worth using.

5.) The blog comments seem to show various degrees of knowledge about the subject.

Source comparison

Source 1: http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2012/10/27/does-video-game-addiction-fix-itself/

Accuracy supported by research and lists references to the study, author has a doctorate in psychology and has been publishing since the early 90s about psychological issues. Even though the article lists it as video game addiction, it seems less slanted toward showing it as a negative. This was last updated/reviewed on October 26, 2012. Is pretty comprehensive, showing background information about the subject as well.

Source 2: http://addictions.about.com/od/lesserknownaddictions/a/videogameadd.htm

Accuracy supported by sources listed, author is a psychologist though website itself has pages with various authors who may or may not be as credible. Lists it as an addiction, so the objectivity is obviously slanted in that way. This article was updated last as of March 22, 2012. Is fairly comprehensive within the article about  several issues related to the topic.

Contemporary media is encouraging children to grow up too fast

Contemporary media is encouraging children to grow up too fast
In today's media there are hundreds of televisions shows, sites and videos out there. Each have negative and positive effects on children. The argument is made that media can manipulate children to grow too fast. Kids who are 5 know more about computers than the average teenager from the 90's. Mobile devices seem to keep, kids and their parents at a distance, and these kids seem to not want to spend as much time outside. But saying that media is what makes kids grow of faster is a little much. In reality school is what makes kids grow up at an alarming rate. Kids are told from day one that they need to work hard to get a good job in the future and to get a good job they need to go to college. And if they don't go to school they are going to pretty much fail at life. Elementary teachers, while they do give the students some creative liberty, seem very stern with their students and teach them to do exactly what their superiors say say. By the time high school come around the kids either fit into several divisions, the smart kids who choose to work hard, the ones to choose not to work to their full capability, or the ones who just choose not apply themselves, the ones who think they who think they can't get into college and don't try. While these aren't all the divisions, these make up the majority. Growing up too fast is mostly the result of education and parental supervision, and yes some can be linked to media, media is not the main source of this.

Ad Analysis

Analyze the ad at the end of this section.
The ad at the end of the section is what seems to be a section of a website concerning human sexuality. The site is the Electronic Journal of Human Sexuality. It provides a mission statement as well as criteria they use to determine appropriate sites and information that they will provide on their site. They seem to be adamant in making sure that every piece of information they obtain and display are as accurate as possible and as factual as possible. The site provides all the information needed in order to be deemed an acceptable site for a legitimate research paper as well as for factual evidence.
 What is its causal argument?
The causal argument is To disseminate knowledge about all aspects of human sexuality to the widest possible international community at moderate cost.
What does it identify as main causes?
Trying to prove the factual information about articles as well as any other publication uses for the Electronic Journal Of Human Sexuality.
Does it identify contributory causes?
No, it seems as if the site in question mainly focuses on the topic at hand including Human Sexuality and all that it entails.

"Do employers using facebook for background checks face legal risks?"

1.      1. For checking accuracy of Carolyn Elefant’s article, the first step is to check if she has any  factual error on her article. Second, I will check her article’s references. She references too many different thing, I will check to are these references are creditable source of reference of not. Next, I will check to see if she has a work cited, or if she has written references or link for the references that she makes. I probably going to Google those references and some of the main statement and statistics that she uses on her article to make sure they are verifiable.
2.     2.   I will check the “about us” on her weblog to know her professionally, and her experience. Is her professionally is relevant to her article? Is the next question I will look for in order to check the credibility of her article, and to find out the article is respected to her field or not. If I could not find any accurate information about her, and the way she did her research, I will not count her article as a reliable source. For this matter, I also will check the way an article could be submit in her blog. Does it need to be refereed?
3.     3.  Yes. Her audiences are knowledgeable about her subject because they make mention really good point on their comment. Also one of them is doing a relevant research about the subject.
4.     4.  Not really because the website is not up-to-date, and she poorly references in her article. Also, I don’t consider her article comprehensive.
5. The comments show that she has a varied type of audience. One of them just shares the post without checking about accuracy of her post and her resources, but the other one wants to know how she comes up with her information, and check whether they are accurate or not.

facebook blog

1. I would get on the internet and check for evidence. Find a realiable source and check for facts to compare numbers. I would also check for a couple of similar blogs to see how and where other people get their information from.
2. You could look her up on the internet and check for comments and see if everything she says add up, I would say that would give her respect.
3.Yes, the story is wrote for a audience that is knowledgeable because most of the people who comments on it seem to know of the topic.
4.yes, because she gives numbers and names from actual research that she looked up.
5. The blog give me the insight that this is a big issue that certain people are worried about. It seems that    the information is true and that they agree with Elefant.

Facebook Background Checks.

1. The steps I would take to determine if Elefant is a reliable source would be look up any of her past articles and see their content. Also I wound try my best see if she works a regular journalist or instructor, or if journalism is just a hobby of her's.
2. I cannot tell if exactly if she is respected in her field. While some reactions to her article are questionable, others seem ecstatic and agree with her completely. But over all the reactions to article seem lukewarm.
3. The article seems to be written for people who are unaware of its content. The essay goes through explaining the situation in a good amount of detail. Because the article is so descriptive, it makes it seem like it was written for the unaware.
4. This blog seem reliable to extent. Elefant gives sources for her information. This gives the blog validity. The main problem I can see is that though she states that this problem is going on, she does not give a way to prevent it.
5. The comment seem to overall approve of the the blog, though some seem less that favorable.
