- This advertisement appeared on koikoikoi.com and the target audience is teenagers that are sexually active.
- This advertisement was created for neutral people. Just those they may not use condoms.
- The DCSF (Department for Children, Schools & Families) created this campaign is order to prevent teenage unprotected sex among many other campaigns that protect the youth and families.
- This picture is addressing teenage unprotected sex.
- This ad's position is that you should ALWAYS use a condom while having sex or don't have sex at all. You can tell because of the phrase written on the wall "GET TALKED ABOUT. DON'T USE A CONDOM.". This basically says that if you don't use a condom and you get pregnant, people will be talking about you. Yes, I agree with the position.
- Yes they are necessary, see the point above. The words are perfect because they sum up the picture along with the graffiti mouths.
- Many teenagers think it is okay to have unprotected sex but they may get pregnant or get a sexually transmitted disease and this picture argues against it.
- This visual is unattractive because the people who made this don't want people to do it. It is very interesting and appealing to the teenage eye because of the graffiti and the girl. And yes, it is very convincing.

Week 4 Block 1
block 2
michel obama begins her essay with a link to the average american citizen. she explains how her and Barrack were raised in a non-wealthy family, how they had financial problems like every other american. she explains how her father was sick and did his best to send her and her brother to college, and how her father had the courage to wake up in the morning fighting to go to work for his children. she wants the people that are listening to her that she understands them, that she was in the same situation, that barracks purpose is to help others on their path to succeed. in order to accomplish that barrack helped the ones that are in need. lowering tax rates for small businesses, making others find decent jobs to live without money problems etc... she explained that succeeding in life wasn't having a lot a money, it was about finding a way to help others succeed like others did. Michel Obama made people see that she was locked from the same door thats blocking our people to succeed and she is willing to help them open it to succeed in life. she concludes that helping others rise was Barracks goal, helping the people was their main goal.
Week 4 Block one DP
Week 4 Block one DP
Post the image you plan to use for your
essay here. Answer the Questions for Responding to Visual Arguments (PA
63) as they pertain to your image.
·
The internet provided this screen shot. Young
gamers or gamers of all ages more likely.
·
This was probably made for a hostile audience,
in which they want the action
·
Electronic Arts made this game. There goal is to
sell the game ;P
·
The issue is addressing that of urgency. The
alertness of action that is soon to come
·
The position it takes is a aggressive one that
is in your face. The imagery shows you the action. I agree with the position of
action
·
No, I think the action says it all “omg, don’t kill
me”
·
Not in particular, other than saying its
impossible to be a pacifist in this situation…
·
It is attractive and effective in how it draws
you in with action. “Buy this game, you will see this action”
block 1
Block 1:
- · Magazine/ blog and the target audience is people looking to buy a car.
- · Friendly or neutral
- · Ford probably created the ad or it could be an owner trying to sell their car. Their goal is to sell the 2011 Ford Mustang.
- · How fast the car goes compared to other cars.
- · That this brand of car is faster than other cars. By the effects of the lighting and color in the picture. I can’t agree or disagree because I've never driven this type of car.
- · Yes it does include words. They don’t seem to be needed they just enhance what the ad is trying to say. That people that drive the car should be scared of the speed of the car. It does not need more words other than how powerful the engine is.
- · No the ad does not seem to be a refutation.
- · The ad is effective, attractive, and interesting. It’s a little unclear on what they really want to say and the picture. It would be convincing if I was looking for a car.
Rhetorical Strategies of Anna Romney's speech
Anna Romney starts her speech by
reminding about people in hurricane which shows her sympathy with them. Then, she
makes an introduction for her speech by talking about love which also would be
her finishing point and conclusion of her speech. During her speech, she mostly
appeals to emotion to make her point more effective like her talk about love. Also,
she appeals to logic to by bringing Med Romney’s personal life success as an example
for his future success as the president of the United States. The irony about
her speech is that at the first of the speech she said that “she is not there
to talk about politics”; however, since this speech took position in the
republican national convention for next presidential election, her aim could
not be anything except winning the upcoming election. Her audience are mostly
informed and in favor of her. They plaudit for her rapidly and she has a mutual
respect for them as well. Her thesis is because Med Romney is a successful man
as a family and business man, he could be success as the future president of
the United States. For supporting her main point she makes clear statements
about things. One is that Med Romney is in favor of the women’s right. Second one
is willing to make the best educational fundamental that he could. Finally, his
strategy would be supporting and beneficial for economy according to his
personal experience in the business. Anna Romney also takes a position against
events that were happened in the past four years of Obama’s presidency. She uses
some stylist techniques like repetition and Rhetorical questions. For examples,
she kept mentioning Med Romney as her “high school dance” and, her sentences
which start with “This is the man…” to make repetition strategy. Also her
questions like “Do we want to raise their children to be afraid of success”, “Do
we send our children out there with this advice, try to do ok?” are the
examples of Rhetorical questions in Anna’s speech. Overall, her speech is effective
because she was able to be attached to audience, make her main point clear ,and
supportive it with good evidence.
Week 4: Block 1
- · The meme appeared on memebase.com. The target audiences for this meme were those who support freedom of speech as well as those who support the owner of Chick Fil A.
- · I believe this visual was created for a friendly audience but, I also believe that it can become very controversial to those whom do not agree with the argument is making.
- · The visual was created by a random American person whom I know nothing about except for the fact they know about pop culture and possess strong opinions for certain subjects.
- · The issue the visual is addressing is freedom of speech and those who believe in it only when it is convenient for them or coincides with their personal beliefs.
- · The Chick Fil A meme uses visual and articulate representation to argue that some individuals only support freedom of speech when it coincides with their personal agenda. I can depict this position from the details provided within the visual such as the hipster girl with her head tipped upward and distinct clothing and appearance. I agree with this position because while I believe of speech no matter the statement, within our society the public tends to criticize others for what they believe and what the speak out about.
- · The visual does include a statement which says, “Believes in freedom of speech except for when the owner of Chick Fil A is involved. The words are absolutely necessary; they make the point that freedom of speech is great unless one does not agree. The visual needs no more text other than what is written.
- · The argument seems to be more of the beginning statement rather than a response to one.
- · The visual is effective in gaining the attention of an audience as well as getting the message across. It is clear and interesting because it makes one think about other situations involving freedom of speech. The visual is convincing because it used a certain type of person to convey the message.
Michelle Obama speech block 2
Michelle Obama begins her speech by thanking elaine Brye for
all of her families sacrifice. Thanking all the people that has been supporting
her family. She speaks on issues about health care and also speaks on creating
jobs for working class people and small business owners. Her purpose is to show
that her and Barrack are using their family values and vision to help better
the working class situation. To accomplish her purpose she speaks about how
Barrack cut taxes for working family’s and fought to get the automobile
industry back on it’s feet. She appeals to the working class and small business
owners. She also appeals to everyone in the country to better the American
dream. Her main argument is that they are working hard at making a better
America. She refutes this argument by saying she see’s the concern in Barracks
eyes and she hear the determination in his voice. Finally, she conclude by
making the point that barrack do not care if you’re a democrat or republican he
know that we all love our country. Overall I believe the speech was effective
because she got her main points to the crowd and supported everything she spoke
about with supporting statements.
Week 4: Block 2 Michelle Obama
Michelle Obama begins her speech with her worries of the first election; the worries she had concerning her family and most importantly her daughters. The problem she is speaking of is the reelection of her husband President Barrack Obama for the 2012 election. She speaks of her family as well as the Presidents family and of how they were hard workers who instilled unwavering values within the two of them. She assumes her listeners are supporters of President Obama and if they are not she is trying to convince them to become supporters. Her purpose is to persuade the American people to vote for her husband in the upcoming election. In order to accomplish her purpose, she appeals to pathos and tells stories of struggle and triumph. She also appeals to the average American who has a family and those who believe in working hard in order to succeed. Within her speech, Obama addresses the main argument and idea that success just happens and one does not necessarily have to work hard to become who they are meant to be. She refutes this argument by saying working hard to be successful instilled a sense of morals and values in President Obama and therefore he will continue to be successful as the President of the United States of America. Finally, she concludes with a recap of her previous worries for her family by saying she no longer possesses those fears because of the strong moral values instilled in her family. Overall, the argument Obama makes is very effective because she obviously appeals to the audience in which she is speaking to as well as to those who may have been skeptical in the past.
Week 4: Block 2 Rhetorical Strategies
The issue is that Ann Romney is trying to show everyone that her husband Mitt Romney is the best candidate. She is also trying to show people that they are not so different from everyone else. That he was not handed success that he had to work for everything he has. She is trying to appeal to the nation’s economic situation, where everyone is having to work harder and long to achieve the things that were easier to get in the past. She is making a big appeal to the women voters by saying that they are the hardest working class. She is also trying to make the appeal that she and Mitt grew up in families that are similar to the normal, average American family. That even though they are wealthy now they both came from working class families. Some of the rhetorical strategies she uses are describing things that have happened. Like her meeting Mitt at a high school dance and how he was kind of nervous. Or about their first apartment and how they used an ironing board as a dining table. And how they ate a lot of pasta and tuna fish. Another strategy she uses is a cause and effect, that Mitt was not handed success, he had to work long and hard to achieve the success he has today. She also uses narration where she describes specific event, like when she described Mitt going to two schools at once and how she had a baby and no family around. She uses this to kind of pull you into her story. She also uses argumentation, like how Mitt Romney goes out of his way to help his fellow man but he doesn’t like to talk about it because he thought it was the right thing to do. I thought it was very ineffective when she tried to bridge over her love with her and Mitt and their family to their love for their country. I also thought it was ineffective when she tried to prove that women were harder working than men. I think that the speech by Ann Romney was more effective simply for the reason that she does bring a lot of good evidence that disproves the claims against her husband.
