John McCain, who ran for president almost 4 years ago, gave his speech at the Republican National Convention August 28, 2012 in Tampa, Fl. He begins his speech by saying he wishes he could be in a different position. Implying his desire to still be president. However he did all he could do and was supporting Mitt Romney in his nomination. He presents the many reasons America is dealing with trouble, and the solution to this problem electing Mitt Romney. He has been through this before and is a reliable source to know the pressures and issues we are faced with. Not only Americas problems but the conflicts we have with our allies. McCain has been through these issues before and made plans to do with them. He also uses pathos to show voters the trouble America is facing and it is time to put a republican back in power.

Essay 2 body paragraph
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0812/80398_Page2.html
Rand Paul thinks that Obamacare is unconstitutional and that even the father of the constitution would agree with him. He feels that the debate is not new and probably will never be over any time soon. He talks about how Hamilton and Madison fought from the beginning about how the government would be limited by the enumerated powers (his words). He feels the federal governments powers are few and defined. For example the power to tax and spend is restricted by the enumerated powers. He feels the only way to fix the problem is to have a new president.

Scarlett Johansson Speech
Johansson
starts right off the bat discussing how she realizes being in Hollywood and
being a celebrity doesn’t make her one vote any different than anyone else’s.
Realizing that she has lived an average life compared to certain class areas
she believes everyone should vote. No matter their financial situation. She
appeals to pathos when discussing her own back round and how she saw how amazing
voting was in the eyes of a child. She them addresses the situation that last
year in the age group of 18-24 year old, less than half voted. She encourages
everyone to vote no matter his or her own political view. It is their own
personal right and privilege. It’s almost illogical not too.

Week 6: First Paragraph
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0812/80504.html
Mit Romney appeals to pathos through everyone’s patriotism, putting everyone on the same level by calling us what we are, a nation of immigrants. He talks about the freedoms of this country and how America is a symbol of a better life, evoking a strong sense of patriotism throughout the audience. He talks about all of the hard times the American families are going through, where they were hoping that they could just get a little bit ahead, or put a little more into their children’s college fund. He talks about the American spirit, the never quit attitude that has made this country great. He talks about how when someone would lose their job that paid “$22.50 with benefits” they would take on TWO jobs at less because that is what they needed to do for their family, they did NOT quit, but instead they worked harder to provide for their families because they is what they needed to do. He evokes a strong sense of patriotism from the audience by appealing to their emotions through their struggles, and through their actions of what they need to do. He appeals to the concern of people when they are at the gas pump and watch the price hit $50 and just keep going. He using emotion, a strong sense of patriotism here, to sway the people to vote for him.

Essay 2 Outline, Week 6
Essay
Two Outline
Thesis
statement: Kerry Healy uses the appeals of both pathos and logos
to influence the audience to vote for Mitt Romney for President of the United
States of America.
Topic
One:
The appeal to pathos was evident throughout Kerry Healy’s entire speech. In the
beginning of her speech she spoke about Massachusetts losing hope for its
future as a state because the unemployment rate was sky rocketing. She went on
to talk about how Mitt Romney restored not only the hope for a brighter future but,
safe guarded the people living in the state. “Mitt Romney is a good and
honorable man,” states Healy. Clearly she is trying to appeal to the emotions
of her audience when she speaks of his honorability. Healy emphasizes that
Romney focuses on those in need instead of himself even on the day of his
inauguration for Governor of the state of Massachusetts. She uses key words
such as hope and pride to reinforce her ideas. Finally, Healy discusses
Romney’s family values and his ability to live them every day. The appeal to
pathos is a strong tool used within this speech. The appeal is very effective
because Healy knows how to influence her audience with her appeal to emotions
because she is speaking to an audience in favor of her argument that Mitt
Romney should become President of the United States of America.
Topic
Two:
Healy appeals to logos by insisting Romney is a good businessman and can run
the country effectively.
Example
1:
He pulled Massachusetts out of its massive debt and gave the state a brighter
future.
Explain:
Mitt Romney turned the state around in a financial sense but not only pulling
it out of debt but creating a “rainy day” fund meaning they now have money.
Example
2:
Romney cut taxes 19 times while Governor of Massachusetts.
Explain:
The Governor helped the people living in that state continuously save money,
which is logically better for those who benefited from the tax cuts.
Example
3:
Romney made creating jobs a top priority; therefore he can do the same for the
U.S.
Explain:
Romney is a good business man who can obviously create jobs and knows how to
make money. He has the knowledge and skill to pull our country out of debt and
create more jobs for the American people.
Conclusion:
The speech effectively applied pathos and logos to convey the specific message
the speaker was arguing for.
