Parking situation

There are not many ways you can fix the lack of parking on the northwest campus unless they buy more land  and added more parking. One other way that I can think of that might work is making parking assignments for everyone if they could. I haven't had trouble parking but I also always park in overflow. I think that if you want the best parking spots you get to the school early and if you don't care you can park in overflow.

Hunsford proposal from Pride and Prejudice

The reason that the proposal failed was because he made it sound as if he really didn't want her as a wife and wouldn't be happy with the marriage  That no one would be happy if they were to marry and that he thinks that it would be frowned apound by everyone. Another reason he failed with the proposal was how he went out of his way to keep his friend from marrying her sister and is happy that he succeed.  The only way he could of possibly made his point more  persuasively was by not saying anything about how everyone would disprove and that he proposed against his better judgement. He also can explain everything that happened better to make her understand and know the truth about things that she used against him.

Thesis

"McCain appeals to ethos, pathos and logos in his speech to convince the viewers that the republican party needs to be placed back in power to help America get back on track."
I do not think i will revise my thesis. But I decided to post it and see if anyone had any opinions to how i should revise it. I think i have a very strong thesis and is straight and to the point of what McCain does in his speech using his appeals. I think it is very general to let me use my paragraphs to get more in depth into how he uses each appeal in his speech. I hope to go to the writing lab to see if they think otherwise. I used help already from Mrs. Darlington to help revise my thesis before so i had already used another set of eyes prior to the revisions. If anyone has any other opinions as to what i should do to make this thesis any better i would love to hear them and would be very open to anyones revisions.

3 higher order concerns

I feel as if i rushed my essay for my analyzing a political speech so through the essay i have very many grammatical errors. I don't think i made to many mistakes with the spelling i am ususally very good about that. But i definitely could have used better words choice. I think i needed to go a little more in depth in reasons as to why John McCain did a great job in supporting Romney. I used much of my essay to analyze the beginning of his speech, and my essay was to long to analyze the end. I hope to revise it and paraphrase much of the essay so i can review more of the end and make sure i can get his strong points from the conclusion of the speech. I will take it to the writing lab and make sure to have another set of eyes to see my essay so they can see the mistakes that i just skimmed by. I also have been looking through the bedford handbook and found very many good tips to revise my essay with.

Criteria

The criteria i chose for the Illusionist is i will evalute the lighting and sounds in the movie. This is very crucial to the movie because it is full of magic tricks and illusions which are very important to see every part of. The sounds and music are very important parts and need to be executed very well. Certain scenes need to be seen and heard well because it is important to understand and stay the story plot. I will also evaluate each magic trick displayed in the movie i believe this is important because they effect every aspect of what happens in the end. Once you watch what happens going back through the movie is completely different since you know exactly what is actually happening and can solve his illlusion before it actually happens.

Anecdote

The anecdote i chose in the film "The Illusionist" is when Inspector Uhl finally pieces the entire illusion together and finds out the truth. After all the illusions in the movie, he finally puts all the tricks together to figure out what Eisenheim has done and realizes they have all been played and Sophie is still alive. I chose this scene because it is truly my favorite part and i could watch it over and over. It is so artistic the way they put this together and truly phenomenal the way the audience finds out the truth. This is what i will be evaluating to pick up on all the clues and pieces i missed before not realizing it was all an illusion or a trick. I will pick up the evidence to make the story make sense of how they pulled this off. It is such an amazing and mind-blowing piece of work and so many details to be evaluated.

plot summary

Money Train is about two foster brothers John and Charlie that are undercover police officers whose job is to bust subway robbers who targets drunks. John (Wesley Snipes) is the older brother who is seen as the responsible one while charlie (Woody Harrelson) is seen as The habitual gambler who always loose at everything. In the begining charlie walks around as if he is drunk and two young teenagers pursue him and take his watch, ring and necklace. Once they take all his jewelry the other officers come out and chase them and one of robbers run toward the money train and  get shot by the money train officers. John and Charlie get into a big dispute with the officers because they shot a kid that was'nt trying to rob the train. Then They get a new female partner Grace Santiago that they both have a crush on. But when things get hard on Charlie and his pocket gets picked for fifteen thousand dollars that john gave him, he loose the girl that he have a crush on to his brother and gets fired. He come up with a plan to hijack the money train. I choose to leave out certain details of the film beacause I'm still figuring out how and where should I put certain scenes in. But I'm still not finish so Im pretty sure it'll all ad up.

Adecdote

Two foster brothers, Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson are police officers posing as drunks in the New York subways to catch robbers. When they are on the job things get a little heavy when a robber try to set a female clerk at the subway on fire. When John (wesley snipes) chase the robber down to try and make an arrest it turn into a physical altercation and the robber end up getting set on fire by john. The movie is filled with action pack scenes directed by Joesph Ruebon. I choose this as my adecdote because it is a key part in the movie. It fits the criteria because most of the movie was filmed in the subways in new york And their jobs as police officers was being undercovers in the subways.

Aspects of Film

There are several aspects of film you might want to review.  I want to break them down into some categories for you to give you a clearer idea of where the properties you have chosen might best fit.

Acting:
Performance
Believability (of portrayal)
Characterization (how well the actor creates the character - mannerisms, habits, etc.)

Plot:
The events we see unfold onscreen.  This is different than story, which includes the events that take place both onscreen and off.  Plot is the "what happens" in the story - the actual events.  This is an important differentiation.

Theme:
What the story is about on a grander scale.  This is really the philosophical meaning of the film or its deeper implications.  To use an example - the plot of Mystic River is three childhood friends being brought back together when one of their daughters is killed.  The theme, however, is the lasting scar that a single event can have not just on a person but on an entire community.

Screenwriting:
Dialogue
Believability (of events)
Pacing
Story

Cinematography:
Camera angles
Camera placement/distance/movement
Lighting
Color (of lighting/lens filters)
Types of lenses and/or film used

Special Effects:
Realism
Animation
CGI
Effectiveness

Sound:
Atmosphere
Diegetic Sound (sound that takes place within the story being told on screen - footsteps, music that is being played in a club where the characters are, etc.)
Extradiegetic Sound (sound that is not part of the story - music that creates atmosphere or tension but is not part of the story, voice-over narration)

Editing:
Types of cuts
Effectiveness of cuts
Continuity
Pacing - editing can be very important in action films; for instance, the average length of scene in a film is 2-3 minutes. (The average television scene is 3 minutes.)  A slow-moving film or a period piece might have longer scenes (The Social Network opens with a 5 minute scene) while a film with a lot of action will have shorter scenes (often less than1 minute).  Shorter scenes make the film feel as if the action is moving faster; longer scenes do the opposite.

Setting:
Time period
Place
Situation
Props
Costumes
Set Design

There are many more obscure ones that I could add, but most of you are unlikely to be using them.  Also, I am sure there are some that I have not thought of here.  Please, if you have something you are not sure about, drop me a line for clarification.

Movie Review

The Illusionist

The film i chose is the Illusionist. This is by far my favorite movie ever. I will review the many illusions used throughout the movie. The constant mystery played in the movie and all the confusion from the characters. The movie is constantly confusing the mind and by the end everything is revealed. I will review each element of mystery and illusion.

Mystic River review

I really enjoyed the mystic river film. I am a big fan of thriller murder movies.  The boy's friendship is ended after the childhood tragedy. Dave, the boy abducted, lives his life in fear and resentment to his friends that had not gotten in the car and experienced what he had. All their lives immediately changed after the abduction. Later, when jimmy's daughter is killed it is immediately implied that Dave is the one who killed her. Through the whole movie we fear Dave and believe he has committed the crime. Coincidentally the boys are all sadly reunited over this crime, and Sean is the detective solving the homicide. In the end we find out Dave is not the true killer, but he had killed a child molester. Something he has hated his whole life. But it is too late Jimmy has already killed Dave thinking he killed his daughter. It ends open Sean back together with his wife and child. Jimmy living with the guilt of killing an innocent friend and Dave's family living without him even after finding out it was the daughter's boyfriend's brother. The plot is mysterious and thrilling the entire time but an excellent movie.

Film Review: Equilibrium

For my film review, I’ve chosen to write about the 2002 film Equilibrium. I’ve always been a fan of dystopian stories (1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, etc) and this is one of my favorite films. The film utilizes a number of unusual techniques in its fight scenes. In particular, the use of lighting during the gun fight scenes is particularly unusual. I feel that this adds a certain charm to the style of fighting for this somewhat futuristic scenario. Additionally, I think I will go over the use of the anti-emotion drug throughout the film. It’s a central plot point and is persistent through the entire film. Another major theme would be the destruction of art and music. The main job of the main characters is to destroy these parts of society and they become an important theme in the later parts of the film.

Dont Talk About It

Clip!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Post a clip from your selected film and analyze it using one of the techniques explained in the "Writing About Film" link.  Be sure to let us know which technique you are employing.
    • there are an extraordinary amount of techniques used in this film, but i for enjoy the camera angle. Its not set in one direction, its more of a free angle capturing random shots and yet making them just pop out into your face.

Essey 3

I selected this movie because I feel that its inspiring and that it has a strong effects on its viewers. It has some really good special effects and the actors are perfect for this movie. What I mean by this is that I feel that they connect with their characters on another level then most. Some may not know that Kirk Cameron and his wife both had parts in this movie. When I was younger they both came to my church and spoke about the movie and their beliefs. The told how it helped them to connect to their characters a lot more then others would. I also love how they used the music to help people to connect to the movie. This movie is just the start of a series of two other movies that continue on with the story. I wish I could do my review on all three movies together. I think people that arent christian would like this movie because it even talks about the other religions but not in a bad way. To me it seemed like the characters even cared about the other religions and what is going on in the movie that would cause trouble and make them angry.

Fil Selection Fight Club

  • Post your selection for the film review assignment here.  Explain why you selected it and which elements of the film you believe you will review.
    • Fight Club,
    • The plot
    • Camera
    • Romance
    • Philosophy

A not so Mystic River

  • Post a viewing response to Mystic River.  This is fairly open-ended.  Did you like it?  Hate it?  Why?  You can comment on character, plot, theme, filming techniques, anything that caught your attention about the film. Remember, though, this is a response, not a summary.*NOTE:  Everyone must answer this as one of his/her discussion posts.
    • The Movie from my point of view was pretty well done. I did however have a hard time understanding why Ray Harris’s little brother killed his Girlfriend, I understand that he loved his older brother, but really? Did he have to beat her with a hockey stick? NO, But I digress. The plot was well formatted. Example because I missed the first viewing of the movie yet when I started watching I understood what was going on, and could actually predict who killed Jimmys daughter.  I also believe that the ending was done well. Jimmy had the conviction to rule the town, and the police officer knew he couldn’t stop him.

Week 9 My review will be on.

I will be reviewing Snow White and the Huntsman.

I selected this movie because I happened to have rented it earlier this week and enjoyed it so i have access to watch it again and really evaluate the movie.

I think I will be focused on reviewing the cast and how they each contributed to the film.  There is a lot of ways it could go though haven’t had the time yet this week to completely evaluate which direction i want to go in.

Week 9 Film Review elements

The Avengers

My selection for the film review assignment is, as the title says The Avengers, why?  Well I like the movie and I figured it would be an easy movie to review seeing how it’s such a great movie also, why not?  Honestly I picked the first movie that came to mind.  Anyway the elements of the movie I will try to explain are acting, because it definitely plays a key roll in how to movie turns out and how the people react to it.  Writing because without a good plot/script a movie would not be….well it would not really be worth even remembering let alone writing a review about.  Sound because with every great movie has a great soundtrack or music to go with it, because sound is very important in a movie to help evoke particular emotions or suspense from the audience.  And lastly composition because composition is the use of the visual elements and principles to create a frame that is aesthetically interesting, attention holding, and consistent with overall continuity and in a movie it is very important to make as many aspects or images or frames or whatever to be aesthetically interesting, attention holding for it to be successful.

week 9 mystics river

Mystic River was a good movie I enjoyed the twists and the turns they make you immediately  start to question Dave and his character with his obvious personal issues then he starts to lie about what happened to his hand and the time line of that night. All the clues make your really start to believe he was for sure the one who committed the crime.   Jimmy just wants revenge for his daughter acts out of an emotional rage just wanting to fill the void in his life.   He plays the role very well losing people you love absolutely breaks some people and everything in your life changes from one decision.  Finally they introduce the only person in the movie that actually gains from the death of Katie and we have that it all makes sense now feeling.  The movie is dark in nature but an overall very good movie.

Mystic River Review

Most murder mysteries go the way of unleashing tension and a mounting sense of suspense and danger as the plot originating from the murder in itself reveals red herrings and a more sinister plot underneath just waiting to be discovered.  Clint Eastwood's thriller goes a completely different direction: while the identity of the killer is still at the center of the story and is revealed in almost surprising -- but plausible -- sequence, this is more a powerful character study of three childhood friends joined together by the very horror of a life extinguished. All three actors make their roles their own -- Sean Penn is quietly intense and devastated, Tim Robbins is the ultimate broken man through circumstances not of his control who still relives his own tragedy every day, and Kevin Bacon plays a stoic detective who also has some relationship issues of his own.  If there's one weakness in the movie it's the way the women are written. While Marcia Gay Harden fares better in her portrayal of a housewife who discovers what she believes to be a deadly secret involving her husband (Tim Robbins), Laura Linney, while being strong in her own role, is a little underwritten throughout and her sudden change at the end is a little inexplicable though chilling and recalls Lady MacBeth's speeches towards MacBeth.  A very bleak take on the notion that some people never learn from the mistakes they make in life and how those mistakes come back to rip their own life apart in the most subtle of ways, one of the most emotionally dark movies of 2003 and completely deserving of its Oscar wins (for Best Actor and Supporting Actor, a feat repeated in this years Oscars for 2004) and nods.
