Rhetorical Strategies of Anna Romney's speech

Anna Romney starts her speech by reminding about people in hurricane which shows her sympathy with them. Then, she makes an introduction for her speech by talking about love which also would be her finishing point and conclusion of her speech. During her speech, she mostly appeals to emotion to make her point more effective like her talk about love. Also, she appeals to logic to by bringing Med Romney’s personal life success as an example for his future success as the president of the United States. The irony about her speech is that at the first of the speech she said that “she is not there to talk about politics”; however, since this speech took position in the republican national convention for next presidential election, her aim could not be anything except winning the upcoming election. Her audience are mostly informed and in favor of her. They plaudit for her rapidly and she has a mutual respect for them as well. Her thesis is because Med Romney is a successful man as a family and business man, he could be success as the future president of the United States. For supporting her main point she makes clear statements about things. One is that Med Romney is in favor of the women’s right. Second one is willing to make the best educational fundamental that he could. Finally, his strategy would be supporting and beneficial for economy according to his personal experience in the business. Anna Romney also takes a position against events that were happened in the past four years of Obama’s presidency. She uses some stylist techniques like repetition and Rhetorical questions. For examples, she kept mentioning Med Romney as her “high school dance” and, her sentences which start with “This is the man…” to make repetition strategy. Also her questions like “Do we want to raise their children to be afraid of success”, “Do we send our children out there with this advice, try to do ok?” are the examples of Rhetorical questions in Anna’s speech. Overall, her speech is effective because she was able to be attached to audience, make her main point clear ,and  supportive it with good evidence.
