A not so Mystic River

  • Post a viewing response to Mystic River.  This is fairly open-ended.  Did you like it?  Hate it?  Why?  You can comment on character, plot, theme, filming techniques, anything that caught your attention about the film. Remember, though, this is a response, not a summary.*NOTE:  Everyone must answer this as one of his/her discussion posts.
    • The Movie from my point of view was pretty well done. I did however have a hard time understanding why Ray Harris’s little brother killed his Girlfriend, I understand that he loved his older brother, but really? Did he have to beat her with a hockey stick? NO, But I digress. The plot was well formatted. Example because I missed the first viewing of the movie yet when I started watching I understood what was going on, and could actually predict who killed Jimmys daughter.  I also believe that the ending was done well. Jimmy had the conviction to rule the town, and the police officer knew he couldn’t stop him.

  1. I think that the younger brother didn't want to lose his older brother like he lost his father. I agree with everything else you said about the movie . At the start of the movie though it was a little confusing on who killed Jimmys daughter.

  2. I think it's supposed to be something like in the heat of the moment they impulsively killed her. They film portrays it as an accident - and I'm sure you've heard news (or seen films/tv shows) where murders happen for bizarre reasons, or no reason at all. :\

@Claire- i can understand the heat of the moment drama, and how they ended up calling 911, but still with a hockey stick? I dont really see it as an accident..
