Film Review: Equilibrium

For my film review, I’ve chosen to write about the 2002 film Equilibrium. I’ve always been a fan of dystopian stories (1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, etc) and this is one of my favorite films. The film utilizes a number of unusual techniques in its fight scenes. In particular, the use of lighting during the gun fight scenes is particularly unusual. I feel that this adds a certain charm to the style of fighting for this somewhat futuristic scenario. Additionally, I think I will go over the use of the anti-emotion drug throughout the film. It’s a central plot point and is persistent through the entire film. Another major theme would be the destruction of art and music. The main job of the main characters is to destroy these parts of society and they become an important theme in the later parts of the film.

  1. I have seen this movie before I love it It kinda reminds me of the matrix just a little. The fights scenes are so incredible the techniques are like wow. Yes i do agree that the lighting during the gun fight scenes are unusual but it does add some type spark to the film itself plus the dude is Hot.

  2. Christian Bale and Taye Diggs are both pretty dreamy in this movie. :D It definitely does remind me of the Matrix movies, too. It came out in 2002 and the first Matrix film came out in 1999, so I imagine that they were pretty influenced by the Matrix when they wrote this screenplay.
