Week 6: Outline Essay 2

Thesis: Mit Romney uses pathos and logos in order to convince the audience and citizens of America to vote for him for President of the United States of America

Topic 1: He appeals to pathos through everyone’s patriotism, putting everyone on the same level by calling us what we are, a nation of immigrants.  He talks about the freedoms of this country and how America is a symbol of a better life, evoking a strong sense of patriotism throughout the audience.
            Example 1:  He begins talking about all of the hard times normal families are going through.
Explanation:   Families struggling to get ahead, or to put more towards their children’s college fund.
Example 2:  He focuses on the American spirit, the never give up, never quit attitude that has made this country great.
Explanation:  He talks about how when someone would loose their job that paid “$22.50 with benefits” they would take on TWO jobs at less because that is what they needed to do for their family, they did NOT quit they worked harder.

Topic 2:  He talks about events in his life and his experiences to show everyone he is no different than they are.
Example 1:  He talks about the moon landing, and how is was NOT a questions of if we would get there but when we would.  He talked about how he and Ann watched Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon from Ann’s parent’s couch, and how that event left its mark on the American people.
Explanation:  He is again using pathos and evoking that strong patriotism one feels for their country and he is talking about that strong American spirit of we can do anything as long as we put our mind, body and soul into it.
Example 2:  He talks about his father and mother and how they raised him, about how his father never really had a chance for education but became Governor of Michigan.
Explanation:  He talks about how is mother and father were married for 64 years and how the most important thing they gave him was unconditional love and how that is what would help fix this country and put it back on the right track.

Topic 3:  He goes after Obama’s qualifications, his accomplishments, and what he says, telling the American people that they not only want better they DESERVE better.
            Example 1:  He uses logos to show people Obama hasn’t done right by the American people.
Explanation:  He says “You know there’s something wrong with the kind of job he’s done as president when the best feeling you had was the day you voted for him.
            Example 2:  He talks about how Obama has almost no experience working in a business.
Explanation:  Mit talks about all of the small businesses he helped grow and how successful he helped them become and how his business is successful and how he has experience working in a business.
Example 3:  He says “ the president cannot tell you that you are better off today than you were four years ago."

Explanation:  American needs jobs & Obama’s economy has crushed the middle class & the small businesses that create jobs. Obamacare hurts seniors & depresses job in medicine.
