Well from my stand point, and hopefully everybody, we have learned from the video that sex sells. Slap a seductive photo of a pretty girl on a comic book and fan boys go crazy. Black Widow, as portrayed in the picture, has recently resurfaced with the Avengers movie being a hit. You wont see an unattractive women, by some people standards, in a comic book. They will be practically nude, with most features heavily exaggerated. The features that will attract the most people, if you catch my drift.
Of course the women are always making a sexy pose in the comics, with almost always a skin tight out fit. The more attractive the women appears, the more attention the comic gets. Sex sells.
I agree with you one hundred percent. If women were not portrayed to be sexy in these comic books, selling comic books would prove to be tough. Comic book drawers go with what is appealing to the eye- Male and female. The men want to see women comic book figures that would make them want to keep turning the page. Not as many women probably read comic books, but those that do would rather look at a character that is appealing to the eye. The "problem" of the very sexy super hero will only continue to get bigger over time as more and more individuals become obsessed with looks.
ReplyDeleteYes the Women in comic books are designed by men and mostly sold to men. That being said I belive that the images of women in the comics are just keeping pace with the world. If you walked into a highschool 20 years ago and took pictures of what girls were wearing and compare it to what you would find now. Its just what is accepted by society today. I am curious what are the best sellers in the comic book world and how much the sales are moved by the "objectification of women".
