A visual posted on io9.com shows Bruce Wayne (Batman) looking up from a ledge in a well/prison. This visual makes a powerful visual statement about perseverance as well as fear. The photograph shows the depth of the well and that Bruce is scared of the fall but he has a will to make it to the top. He is also in tattered clothing and an unshaven face, which shows the struggle he has been through and is going through to accomplish his goal of getting out of the well. At first glance the photographer's goal seems to be to convey the tragic predicament the main character is in. It is almost as if all hope is lost, but if one would take a closer look he/she would see Bruce has a look of determination. The photo's stark imagery seems to support this position. The well of course seems dark and dreary, clearly a place of utter despair. The ledge is also very small which suggests there is no way out of the situation the character is in. Yet the look on his face suggests he is devising a plan for escape. A note that accompanies the photograph suggests that this particular seen is the "rise." The impact on the audience is most likely going to be a positive reaction for the character. The audience is going to want him to succeed in whatever endeavor he is pursuing.
I love how you chose this photo and I can see what you are talking about. I see the different ways it can be taken in to account. I also see how it can affect people’s emotions even during the movie you could see it on the people’s faces. I love how a photo can portray so much in such small ways that can cause such emotions from the people looking at it. It makes you wonder how they can figure out how to set things up to cause people to have such emotions about the move/ picture. I love the move and how they set it up to cause such effects.
ReplyDeleteCool pic,
ReplyDeleteI think that you nailed this one completely, it is a perfect shot for this assignment. This part of the movie had me excited, especially when all the prisoners were saying "rise" in a chant. The director had great influence over the mood with just Bruce, looking up from the prison with that hopeful stare that you see right now. You new as soon as he looked up, he would do everything in his power to get out.
