This is an advertisement for Bacardi alcohol brand. Since this
ad appears in Stanford University index of alcohol advertisement most of the target
audience for this ad are students specially men. The main purpose of creator of
this ad is to persuade its audience by manipulating them that the key for being
socialize and attracting more women is their product. This ad uses appeal to
pathos in order to convince its audience to purchase the Bacardi because no
logic proves the relationship between being more socialize and alcohol drinking.
In addition to picture the words in the ad “mischievous, mixable, magical” don’t
say anything specific about the drink, like the percentage of the alcohol.
Instead, words just persuade their audience even more emotionally. Drinking
alcohol is a debating subject and this ad is refutation for those who believe
drinking alcohol is all about damaging human body and increasing dangerous attitudes.
Overall this ad is not convincing because it does not use any logic and
accurate information which shows drinking alcohol can increases men self
confidence and attraction.
This add to me shows a room full of people looks like a dance floor in the middle and a man and woman together about to enjoy a drink together. The reason they are currently together is because they are drinking. It also looks like she is giving him a peice of paper logicaly I would assume that to be her phone number. Any way about around it seems like the advertisment is connecting meeting people to drinking.
ReplyDeleteYes this add looks like it's saying If you drink Bacardi you'll get all the girls. Or if you drink you'll be better at communicating with girls. Every guy on the picture have a girl next to them. Then you have one male hand holding a glass and one female hand holding the other glass. I have to hand it to them It's a good way to brainwash someone who don't know any better. But if your a mature adult it don't mean anything.
ReplyDeleteEven though this was published by Stanford, I don’t believe that this means that the audience is students. Keep in mind, a lot of universities publish research – it’s not always aimed at their student body. Professors and graduate students publish articles and studies each year about a plethora of subjects. Otherwise, I definitely agree that this ad is aimed primarily toward men. In the main focal point of the picture, the man is receiving what looks like a business card. This to me suggests “Drink Bacardi, and you’ll be successful at picking up girls.” Also, both of the other women in the glasses are looking toward the viewer which seems like they are waiting for the viewer to go out and get a drink as well.
ReplyDeleteI definitely love this advertisement. I think so many messages can be interpreted from the actual illustration. I do agree with the Bacardi will get you girls. It implies that drinking this alcoholic beverage will bring you popularity and the girls. Depending on the viewer is how far you will take what the ad is saying to you. Will you agree and go buy it? or will you pick up the message and not fall for society?
