The first Harry Potter book, published in 1997, was a publishing sensation that turned into a worldwide phenomenon. Many people saw the Harry potter books as valuable, for a variety of reasons. For example, you have a kid as a wizard doing all types of magical spells and people like magic. Also, you have sorcerers, and witches. People of all ages like reading about those type of things. However some people have criticized the series. They claim,for example, that its not enough major female roles and that all the females are just tag alongs. Others believe that females should not be in the frontline fighting because thats where the men should be. Depending on the criteria used for evaluation, the Harry Potter books can be seen in positive or negative terms. If we judge them on the basis of sales it seems clear that they are doing a good job entertaining adults and kids.
