Week 8 DQ Exervice 14.8
Since the release of the first novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on June 30, 1997, the books have gained immense popularity, critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide. The series has also had some share of criticism, including concern for the increasingly dark tone. The book captured the mind of those who read them, with the mysterious, magical art f witch raft. As of June 2011, the book series has sold about 45 million copes, making it the best-selling book series in history and has been translated into 67 languages, and the last four books consecutively set records as the fastest-selling series in history. A series of many genres, including fantasy and coming of age, with elements of mystery, thriller, adventure, and romance, it has many cultural meanings and references. Fans of the series were so eager for the latest installment that bookstores around the world began holding events to coincide with the midnight release of the books, beginning with the 2000 publication of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The events, commonly featuring mock sorting, games, face painting, and other live entertainment have achieved popularity with Potter Fans and have een highly successful in attracting fans and selling books with nearly nine million of the 10.8 million initial print copes of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince sol in the first 24 hours. The Harry Potter series have been the recipients of a host of awards since the initial publication of the Sorcerer's Stone including four Whitaker Platinum Books Awards( all of which were awarded in 2001), three Nestlé Smartes Book Prizes(1997-1999), two Scottish Arts Council Book Awards(1999 and 2001), the inaugural Whitbread children's book of the year award(1999), the WHSmith book of the year(2006), among others. Given everything the series has earned and been awarded i can solidly conclude that the series does deserve its popularity
