Mystic River Review
Mystic River was a film filled with tension, heart and plenty of humanity in its rawest form. There is a lot to be said about this film. First of all on the good side is how powerfully acted every scene of the film is. Each character in completely believable, even in scenes including subtle humor. This film is a drama film in and out. The overall tone of the film dark and depressing. Rain clouds are seen often and even when it is a clear day outside there is still a gloomy tone to the film. When the film film started I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. It seemed like there was not a lot of places the film could go. I've seen drama film that are about everyday life, something happens that isn't very special and it sets the high for the rest of the film. I was expecting something like that out of this. I am a huge fan a murder mystery and I was not expecting Mystic River to be one. I was expecting the film to be about middle aged men acting like middle age men coming to terms that they are middle age men. Instead the film was everything it could have been to the fullest. There are several scenes in this film I could never forget. The murder of Dave by Jimmy is a scene the made me cringe. It made me angry along with depressed. Overall the film was an amazing feat of modern cinema.
