Week 8: Harry Potter's Girl Trouble
The writer of this article, Christine Schoefer, identified some positive things about the Harry Potter books. She stated that it was hard to put down and that she loved all the colorful imagery and nail-biting suspense. Although Schoefer's main argument was about the sexism in the book that she obviously couldn't forget, she did mention a few positive things about the females in the book. For example, Schoefer mentioned how Hermione is the lead female role and she's the smartest student in Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She also mentioned how Professor Minerva McGonagall is the only female role who has authority in the school being a deputy headmistress of Hogwart's. Schoefer only mentioned the first three books of the Harry Potter books, so my guess is that she hasn't read the rest of them. The publish date to this article that she wrote was in 2000, so I believe that she was only going by these three books. I feel like the writer spoke a little too soon and should have waited till the rest of the books came out so she can write about the books and make an argument.
