Outline of paper


Thesis: The image makes a visual statement that women are not punching bags and should not be treated as such.


  • Intro:
    • Scrapes and bruises are apart of life but should not be apart of relationships
    • 2009 R1 Coalition Against Domestic violence ad depicts a women in an abusive relationship as a punching bag wearing a green dress
    • women should not be treated as such
  • Paragraph 1:
    • women are mostly on the receiving end when it comes to domestic violence and this ad takes a stand on the issue
      • The punching bag wearing the dress represents a woman that is there for the sole purpose of beating up
      •  chain represents convenience of being tied down or held back
      • The green dress seems to flow which represents the softness and how dainty a women is. the color green is most associated with the works “OK,” “Go,” “Good,” and “Run Through” and could also come off to some as an easy target.
  • Paragraph 2:
    • This ad against domestic violence against women, tries to get the viewer to see that women and punching bags are not the same
      • By using the punching bag, the ad gives women a hard exterior, but if taken apart, the materials used to make that punching bag are not hard at all
      • uses chains to hold up the punching bag which shows the man’s upper hand over the woman.
      •  “It isn’t acceptable to treat a woman like one.”
        • The slogan, green dress and chains all help the viewer to see that a woman is not an object used for hitting and that the grace of a woman and the hard exterior of a punching bag do not tie in together
  • Conclusion:
    • Domestic Violence should not be tolerated

    Anyway, I really like the point that you make in your second body paragraph analyzing the punching bag itself. The hard exterior is in direct contrast to the soft stuffing inside, similar to how some women may have a hardened exterior emotionally but are still vulnerable on the inside (plus obviously physically).
