When all else fails, rob the poor.

Ehrenreich begins her essay by stating scenarios of what you could possibly get out of robbing someone  whose financial situation is in a good state versus someone who may have very little money. The problem she identifies is money being taken/ robbed from the poor. She assumes her readers are those that are interested in helping the poor or maybe even someone who is not in the best financial situation themselves. Either way she is speaking out to those that would like to know whats going on with the poor's money. Her purpose is to inform the reader of what is happening to the poor- how their money is being taken, by who, and the slick ways local government and private sector slips money away from the poor. In order to accomplish this purpose, she appeals mainly to pathos. She also appeals to logos. In her essay, Ehrenreich addresses the main argument against her thesis, the idea that the poor are being fined for outrageous things and having to pay for them. He refutes this argument by saying that the poor are already in financial crises so how would they be able to pay for the the things that they are fined for just because they are poor. Finally, she concludes by making the point that before we can "do something" for the poor, there are some things we need to stop doing to them. Overall, the argument Ehrenreich makes is not effective because she does not acknowledge points from the other side, besides that she would have a solid argument.

  1. someone who's financially stable would never have a problem loosing someone money taking from their taxes, but the poor will see every penny that is taken from them. it is very normal to tax a poor just like your taxing someone wealthy. both are people and it is not because you have less money that you have the privilege to not pay your taxes. it is a way of pushing people to work harder, to fight for what they want in life, to achieve their goal.

  2. The author of the article is mainly appealing to the readers pathos side. She does this by first by already assuming that the readers want to help the less priviledged. The authors also views as taxing the poor as a cruel punishment but in reality it helps them become more respinsible and learn how to budject money. and those on finicail aid your tax money is what helps pay for all the things you cant so by not paying taxes they would be hurting themselves.
