Week 4, Block 2 Ann Romney
In the Ann Romney’s speech she talks from her heart about our American heart. She focuses on using the appeal of pathos by talking about the abiding love of her husband and the love she has for the country. Ann compared her love for the country to a mother’s love for her children. She continues to appeal to pathos by expressing her concern for children, brothers, and mothers, sisters who are working and struggling hard to survive in this economy. So that the audience could understand where she came from, she continued her speech talking about how she was a daughter of a cold miner and how her dad worked hard to become the mayor. In her speech she continues to use pathos by expressing her love for her husband and that America should love him because he cares for others and he will move heaven and earth to help others. Ann attacks the former presidents by saying do you America think we have been successful the last four years. She goes on using an attacking method towards the former president by saying Mitt was not handed success he built it and if the last four years were successful would Mitts success be attacked. She continues to appeal to the audience talking about Mitts success and how he founded scholarships, college education, and retirement funds. Also his success in the Olympics and helping guide Massachusetts through an economic crisis. At the end of her speech she appealed to pathos by saying God bless being that people will believe that she cares since she believes in God.

Ann definitely used a lot of pathos in her speech. Everything from the love of mothers and families to how the common people are suffering in the current economic times. Only one correction to your analysis - she's criticizing the *current* president, not the former president! Obama is still in office. Otherwise I pretty much agree with your analysis that she uses pathos to appeal to her audience to make them relate better to her husband.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely right about Ann Romney's use of pathos, however, I felt it was an overload. Not many people can relate to or connect with someone else's love for their husband.
