Week 3: Essay 1 outline

The visual artifact that I will be using for this essay is the one above. The ad states how the color of our skin shouldn't dictate our future. It shows four babies, three of them are light skin and there is one that's dark skin. This baby girl who is dark skin is dressed up as a housekeeper. This reminds me of how back in the slavery days all the slaves and housekeepers were dark skin and the one who were successfull in life are the light skin. For a while, society makes it seem like dark skin people usually aren't successfull and have jobs that don't make enough money while light skin people are the opposite. This ad is trying to encourage people that it doesn't matter what the color of your skin is you should always try to achieve your goals and shouldn't let society tell you that you can't.

  1. That is very interesting!!! I wanted to write about this ad at first too!!lol
I am agreed with you, and I like your thesis for the argument. In this image all light color babies have dipper on except the dark color skin baby. Dipper is a symbol of being unconcerned about the surrounding. This is the way that normal baby should be. However, the dark skin baby dressed like a made which shows she should be worried about her future even when she is a baby. Other babies are playfully looking around despite the dark color baby who has a very concern look at camera. One of light skinned baby has a toy, but the dark skinned baby has a little mop under her bed. This add argues that all babies should have same life opportunity no matter what skin color they have.
