Standford Advertisement Analysis

The advertisement above portrays a young, sharply dressed male lounging and seeming to be deep in conversation. Next to him is a glass of brandy with the caption implying that success comes with drinking this brand of liquor. If you were to drink brandy during this era you would be associated as the wealthy business man portrayed in this ad. The point the advertisement wanted to make was that if you drink this company's brandy that you yourself would become successful as well. The word Success in the caption is synonymous to your lifestyle and your drink of choice. If you choose to drink that type of brandy, you were drinking the best kind. Since this target audience at Stanford are young adults, this would go hand in hand with wanting to be successful out of college. This ad appeals to pathos as you are motivated to become successful and therefore would purchase the drink if it made you that. Overall this ad is not successful due to if you consume alcoholic beverages it does not prove that you will be successful in a business practice. This is also a controversial ad due to the alcoholism it portrays.
