Questions about Your Essay's Supporting Evidence

1: Yes in the essay he is fully for creating green sustainable campuses and having colleges and universities build new more efficient building and remodeling old buildings to be more efficient.  He is fully behind going green.

2: Yes, the statistical data that proves that turning a campus into a sustainable campus that colleges and universities can save money in the long term.  And there is not data from just one source, he quotes and uses statistical data from many different sources

3: All of the information is recent-ish and all of the sources seem to agree with the thesis, that going green in colleges and universities is a good thing, without bias.  All for the information used in this essay seem to be accurate and most of the data, however, seems to be from 2007 – 2008.

4: All of the sources talked about the profits and benefits of having a sustainable & green campus, college or university.  All of the discussions are only about the benefits of going green and are directly related to the topic.

5: I only saw sources that agreed with going green, I did not see any that opposed the idea.  So I do not believe he has looked at other viewpoints that may show some of the drawbacks of going green.

  1. So what is your take on Going Green?

I am all for colleges making the easy quick fix that can dramatically improve carbon emissions.
    Some examples: http://www.sheknows.com/living/articles/807479/52-cheap-ways-to-go-green
But I don’t think that tearing down and rebuilding our campuses is the correct approach. As things are needed they should be replaced and upgraded to more "green standards"

The two top producers of carbon emissions are traveling and electricity, more specifically Cars Planes and Coal based energy. We should focus on the bigger picture than specifically college campuses.

  2. I do believe that all campuses should be going green as well and you are right the two biggest producers of carbon are travel and electricity. And i don't think colleges should go around tearing down buildings either i think they should renovate them like change lighting or the windows to be more energy efficient just little stuff like that to help. And we defiantly should focus on a bigger picture of making as much things as possible green but you have to start somewhere and colleges or places of education in general are a good place to start because in the process you will teach the students about the benefits of being green.

  3. Even though college composes are not top producer of carbon emissions, I believe there are couple of cheap activities students and faculty can do toward sustainability in their college. For example, teachers use less hand outs and put most of the material online, students manage an event in end of each semester to exchange their books together for cheap price, and recycle books and notebooks that they do not need anymore. These activities may not look very influence, but in a long term both students and will see the result of it. After all, being effecting in long term is one of the sustainability’s features .You just need to be patient.

  4. I think Going Green is a great idea, but not everyone may. So what do you think? Do you think that the expense of transitioning to Green is worth the money? Or should we just remain the way we are? This is a very interesting topic and most people don't realize how important it is ! We all may be able to benefit from becoming more green or maybe it isn't worth the hassel !
